  • Hemodialysis (In House care or in Hospital)
  • Peritoneal dialysis at home (CAPD/APD)
  • Renal Transplantation (living donor or diseased organ donor, known as cadaveric donor).

A Renal Transplant may not be considered if the patient has Tuberculosis or a recent history of cancer, advanced heart, lung or liver disease and if the patient is a smoker, alcohol or drug dependant.

The surgery takes approximately three to four hours. The donor kidney will be placed in the lower abdomen, the blood vessels from the donor's kidney will be connected to the patient body and the ureter from the donor's kidney will be connected to the patient bladder. Blood will start flowing through the new kidney and it begins its function of filtering.
